The plate forms part of Hakewill's A picturesque tour of Italy, from drawings made in 1816-1817. The volume was published by John Murray in 1820 and was illustrated with 64 commissioned engravings that were made from Hakewill's drawings.
Closed access material (Library)
The print depicts a statue of a camillus brought in from the Palazzo dei Conservatori in 1816. The statue was replaced in 1838 by a seated figure of a man, Marcellus, brought in from the Vatican and still in situ.
