Dedication: "Illustr.mi et rev.mi Principis et Cardinalis Odoardi Farnesii medico chimico, et eiusdem Horti praefecto."
The printer's preface indicates that the author chose to publish the work under the name of another, and the laudatory poem (p. [5-6]) apparently divulges the author's name as Petrus Castellus. Castelli is considered the author by most authorities (cf. BL Italian, 17th century).
Engraved t.p. within architectural border signed: L.C.F. (Luca Ciamberlano); full-page engraved ill. and occasional woodcut diagrams; woodcut head- and tail-pieces, initials.
