The etched title page is signed with cypher 'GL' (i.e. Gérard de Lairesse) and acts as a collective title-page for the two parts which make up this work. The second part has etched half-title: 'Signorum veterum icones'. All other plates are signed as made by 'JE f.' (Johannes Episcopius, i.e. Jan de Bisschop), and most carry the names of source-artists and/or draughtsmen - who include A. Carracci, L. Carracci, Domenichino, F. Salviati, Cavaliere d'Arpino, Michelangelo, Sebastiano del Piombo, Volterra, Doedeins, J. Matham, G. Vasari, Raphael, Doncker, Pomerangio, Poelenborg, B. Bandinelli, Fra Bartolommeo, T.
